About The Kiwi Crate
The Kiwi Crate is a small New Zealand business that makes two kinds of things: practical money and property tools built for New Zealand rules, and Gujarati language-learning resources for families raising children outside India.
Who we are
We are based in Hamilton, Waikato. The Kiwi Crate started because we kept building the same spreadsheets for ourselves — a rental-property tracker that matched the IR3R, a Healthy Homes checklist that actually followed the Tenancy Services wording, a GST invoice template that had every field Inland Revenue asks for. Friends asked for copies. Eventually it made sense to tidy them up, document them properly and sell them for the price of a takeaway.
The Gujarati side came from our own kitchen table. We wanted our kids to be able to talk to their grandparents, and the resources we could find were either aimed at children living in Gujarat or were flashcards with no audio. So we wrote our own: illustrated workbooks, 280 printable flashcards and an adult beginner course with recorded audio, all written for English-speaking families.
What we sell
NZ money and property tools. The NZ Landlord Compliance Kit and NZ Landlord Pack (Excel and Google Sheets) cover rent and expense tracking, bond records, inspection logs and the Healthy Homes compliance statement. The NZ Sole Trader and Contractor Pack handles tax invoices, GST return figures, expenses and mileage. The 2026 NZ Budget Planner is a printable and Google Sheets household budget. Every template is built around New Zealand tax years (1 April to 31 March), 15% GST and current Tenancy Services requirements.
Gujarati learning. My First Gujarati Words (ages 3–8), the Gujarati Flashcard Mega Pack, Speak Gujarati for adults, and family bundles that combine them. Digital editions download instantly; printed editions are shipped free within New Zealand.
Free tools
Alongside the paid products we publish a growing directory of free NZ calculators — rental yield, mortgage repayments, GST, investment property cashflow, contents and house insurance sums insured, rental income tax, borrowing power and more. They are free with no sign-up, and they use New Zealand rates and thresholds, not generic international ones. We also publish plain-English guides on our blog.
What we are not
We are not accountants, lawyers or financial advisers. Our calculators and guides are educational and illustrative. Where a decision matters — a tax position, a tenancy dispute, a mortgage — check the figures with a qualified professional or the relevant government agency (Inland Revenue, Tenancy Services, the Reserve Bank). We link to the primary source wherever we can so you can verify things yourself.
